About me
Celestina Beakes
Sociology and Journalism go hand-in-hand.
Celestina Beakes draws from her dedication to social issues when producing multimedia stories. These include a diverse range of topics from saving the pollinators to systemic racism, and issues of gender and sexuality.
She recently produced a short documentary called “Grow Your Impact” on the importance of supporting pollinators through native gardens, and the social pressures to keep a manicured lawn. This documentary was also selected to be in the Ridgefield Independent Film Festival in October 2021.
Celestina is a Senior at Ithaca College pursuing dual-majors in Sociology and Journalism. At IC, Celestina learned the importance of looking at the world through a sociological lens, allowing her to see the bigger picture of societal issues. In addition to her studies, she produces weekly newscasts for WICB and VIC radio.
In Celestina’s life outside of college, she shares her interests by having lively discussions with family and friends. She also nurtures her passion for saving the environment through involvement with pollinator pathways and her newfound enthusiasm for creating her own native garden.
